DESCRIPTION
Quick connector of flexible tubes.
Technical field of the invention
The object of the invention is a quick plug connector of the type used to connect flexible pipes of sanitary or heating water conduits.
Background of the invention
Rapid plug connectors of flexible tubes, such as flexible tubes composed of an inner layer of plastic material, an intermediate layer containing a metal component to give resistance to the tube and an outer layer also of plastic material
These connectors are designed to receive and connect at least one flexible tube, which would be the simplest version, although its design covers the union of tubes in line or coaxially, at 90 °, in T and other options.
Among the variety of quick plug connectors that are known, those that are made up of a brass base piece or appropriate plastic material that, as indicated above, can be simple, double, triple, etc., according to the number and direction of the tubes that must converge in the same quick plug connector. This base piece has, at least, a nipple covered by a cap coupled to the base piece, so that an annular space is established between the nipple and the cap that can receive the end of a flexible tube, for which it is introduced the nipple in the flexible tube and exerting a pushing force of the tube in contrast to another force exerted manually on the connector, the coupling of the tube to the connector is achieved.
It is noteworthy that this family of connectors also has a tube retainer. Said element is generally constituted by a metal ring, which has a flat coupling surface and a plurality of radial fins or teeth inclined with respect to the plane of the ring, such that the inclination of the teeth in the direction of the coupling does not hinder the penetration of the tube but, once it has been introduced, its extraction is impossible because said fins are nailed to the outer surface of the flexible tube which, as previously indicated, is made of plastic material.
Examples of this type of quick couplings for flexible tubes are described in EP 0550323, EP 1564473, EP 1642058 and NL 1019377. In these patents, solutions can be observed which, starting from the common elements mentioned above, present different constructive embodiments concerning the base piece, sleeve or cap, seal, retainer and its fastener in the assembly, etc. In many cases the number of parts used is high, which has a significant impact on production and assembly costs.
It would be desirable, then, to have a connector consisting of a minimum number of pieces, well conceived, and that its application and operation be of maximum simplicity and fully effective.

they will depend on the number of connections that have to converge on the connector. At least one sleeve or cap is attached to the brass body so that an annular housing is established between the connector body and the cap to receive the end of the flexible tube to be connected. The cap is constituted by two bodies of plastic material joined, for example, by ultrasonic welding technique.
One of the characteristics of the invention is that the body of the cap that is outside, substantially truncated, is of opaque material and the body that is inside, substantially cylindrical, has a degree of transparency that allows viewing the flexible tube in the maneuver of its introduction in the connector, which allows the user to know at all times the position of the tube in the connector and especially if it has correctly reached the penetration stop.
Another feature of the invention is that the cap has an ergonomic shape, to facilitate the coupling of the connector to the tube, so that the transparent body has a wide cylindrical extension that, in the coupling area forms a step, over which can be pushed with the thumb in the maneuver of introducing the tube into the coupling. This ergonomic shape prevents the fingers from moving at the time the pressure is being exerted, which is common in other designs whose cap is smooth on the outside.
Prior to the union of the two bodies that make up the cap, the retainer is placed between both, consisting of a metal ring provided with radial fins as a tooth, whose fins are folded into the coupling so that the aforementioned fins They flex in the direction of coupling allowing the introduction of the flexible tube but, once introduced, it is impossible to extract because the fins are stuck in the outer surface of the tube. For this purpose, that is, for the greater efficiency of the fins they have a curved leading edge that determines extreme interlocking protuberances.
For the correct guidance and coupling of the two bodies of plastic material that make up the cap, a tongue and groove is provided in the aforementioned coupling area, so that once coupled an annular hole is established in which the retaining ring is housed , a ring that has a curved section, so that the curved line of the retainer with the cooperation of the fins makes the spring effect to keep it in operational position, but with a certain degree of freedom of movement, so that the fins can flex and so that the retainer can have a certain turning movement inside its housing. In the starting position, that is, before the introduction of the flexible tube, the fins rest on an inner conical lip of the opaque body that forms the cap.
The brass base piece has at least one neck for the snap-on coupling of the transparent body of the cap, which is defined between two annular projections, one of which has an inclined section to facilitate the coupling of the aforementioned cap body , which has an inner peripheral flange appropriate for this purpose.
The other end of the brass base piece forms the nipple to be introduced through the mouth of the flexible tube. Near its end, the nipple has a recess that forms a chest of drawers for the assembly of the seal or seal, which has a wide base of support in the drawer, and a triangular section such that the height of the triangle is smaller than the base, in this way, when introducing the nipple into the flexible tube, it is practically impossible for this maneuver to move the nipple out of its housing, in which case it will lose its sealing function.
Following the sealing joint, the nipple continues with a cylindrical section to finally adopt a conical shape, which has several beneficial effects on the operation of the

connector since, on the one hand, it improves the tightness when the union of the tube and the connector are subjected to stresses and bending forces and, on the other hand, it favors the guidance in the coupling of the tube to the connector.
Description of the drawings
To complete the description that is being made and in order to help a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, according to a preferred example of practical realization thereof, a set of drawings is accompanied as an integral part of said description. where the following has been represented by way of illustration and not limitation:
Figure 1 shows a side view of a double connector, according to the invention, for the union of two flexible tubes in line, that is, axially.
Figure 2 shows the same connector of the previous figure in a longitudinal section.
Figure 3 shows the same connector in longitudinal section with a flexible tube attached at one end.
Figure 4- shows in section a connector for joining flexible pipes at 90 °.
Figure 5.- shows in longitudinal section the sleeve or cap.
Figure 6 shows a sectional detail of the retention ring housing between the two parts that make up the sleeve.
Figure 7 shows a section of the base body with two tubes coupled at its ends.
Figure 8 shows a perspective view of the retaining ring.
Figure 9 shows a detail of the gasket and its housing in the base piece.
Preferred Embodiment of the Invention
In view of these figures it can be seen how the connector (1) object of the invention is constituted by a base piece (2) of brass or appropriate plastic material, on which it is mounted by crimping at least one cap (3) which consists of two bodies (31) and (32) of plastic material joined by ultrasonic welding or other appropriate technique. The substantially truncated cone body (31) is opaque, while the substantially cylindrical body (32) is transparent or has a degree of transparency that allows the flexible tube to be visualized in the maneuver of its introduction into the connector, in such a way that the user always sees the position of the tube (5) in the connector (1) and knows when he has reached the top position.
The body (32), of the cap (3), has a step (322) in the area of attachment to the body (31). The wide and substantial general cylindrical shape of the body (32) and the step (322) form an ergonomic grip surface for the user, which allows him to comfortably manipulate the connector (1) with fingers to attach it to the flexible tube (5), serving the step (322) as a push zone. The coupling is made by grasping the tube with one hand or with an appropriate tool and with the other the connector (1) and exerting opposite forces.

The base piece (2) has, at least, a throat (22) defined between two perimeter projections, for the coupling of the body (32) which has in its mouth an inner flange (321) suitable for its assembly and fixing of the coupled parts.
Likewise, the base piece (2) forms at least one nipple that can be introduced through the mouth of the flexible tube (5). Near the end of said nipple, a recess (23) is provided for the location of a seal or seal (4). Said recess has a large contact surface and low height, as does the joint (4), which has a large support surface on the recess (23) and a low height. It can be said that the height of the joint is of the order of half the width of the recess (23). The gasket (4) has a triangular section contact lip. With a broad base of support in the cajeado (23) of the nipple. This design of the gasket, as indicated, makes it materially impossible that when the nipple is introduced into the tube (5) the sealing gasket (4) can leave its housing, which usually happens in those connectors that use toric gaskets. conventional. Likewise, the contact lip in the shape of a very open equilateral triangle facilitates the introduction of the flexible tube (5). The symmetry of the joint facilitates its assembly in automated assembly facilities.
Once the cap (3) is mounted on the base piece (2), an annular recess (6) sized to receive the end of the flexible tube (5) is formed between them, as shown in Figure 3.
The introduction of the nipple into the flexible tube (5) is favored by the special geometry of said nipple, which has a substantially cylindrical initial zone, which in the final part (24) adopts a conical shape, as can be seen in figure 7. This design, in addition to favoring the introduction of the nipple in the tube, improves the tightness between the connector when the union of this with the tube is subjected to stresses and flexural stresses.
The retaining ring (8) has an annular part with a curved section (81) and radial fins (82). The annular part (81) is housed in a recess (7) formed by joining the bodies (31) and (32). From this annular part (81) a plurality of radial fins (82) are born, inclined towards the internal part of the connector (1). Such fins, in non-operative position, rest on an inner lip (310) of the body (31). The curved shape of the annular part (81) of the retainer and the support of the fins (82) on the lip (310) cooperate as a spring in order to keep the retainer in operative position and allow said retainer to rotate even in its housing, which can sometimes be useful for the best introduction of the nipple into the flexible tube.
The fins (82) have an inclination that allows the easy introduction of the nipple into the tube but, once this is introduced, they make material extraction impossible because they have an leading edge that causes them to easily key into the outer surface of the tube avoiding its extraction.
